7:07 am - "Gather ye rosebuds while ye may..."
It never really sunk into me that I will be graduating soon until my classmate Marlene sent me this text message:

"Now is that time in your life when things seem to flash, at bullet speed, right before your very eyes. The events go by fast; so fast, they're over before you know it. HIgh school is now only the safety blanket you've outgrown but miss so much. Few weeks from now, college will be no different..." (18:32:07 2.27.07)

It seems only yesterday when I was still attending ROTC, when I had to wake up at 5 a.m. to get to school in time for Arnis practice, when I always brought my bokken to school, when I still had a crush on my PE classmate, when every lunch break was spent at Lisa's canteen together with my fellow Mice, when I thought joining university-wide organizations was a ridiculous idea, when I had spiky hair, when every afternoon was spent at the IPMAF dojo, when the "Pampanga's Best" joke made me laugh everytime, when my friend Pete lost half a tooth to a bus windshield, when I had a not-so-secret admirer, and when I was stuck in an elevator with 10 other classmates and couldn't help but pass gas.

So many things I'll miss, so many people to thank, and so much to look forward to... But I'll save those for another entry. Or two.

Cheers to everyone... We effin' made it! YEAH!!!

11:11 pm - Hmmm... could be...

You are The Hermit

Prudence, Caution, Deliberation.

The Hermit points to all things hidden, such as knowledge and inspiration, hidden enemies. The illumination is from within, and retirement from participation in current events.

The Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. You do not desire to socialize; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. You prefer to take the time to think, organize, ruminate, take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent but these feelings eventually lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.

The Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing.

What Tarot Card are You?

12:44 am - "Every highway's leading me back to you."
Home. It may not always be as sweet as it seems. After spending almost a week living under one roof with my love, going home is one of the weirdest feelings ever. I'd rather be washing dishes and cleaning catfish with her in a place a hundred miles away than sit here feeling safe but incomplete. But there's nothing I can do but wait. Wait until I see her again. Wait until college is over and hope that she doesn't leave for another country. Ah, the pain I go through for love. Romanticism. Emotions above everything else. I never thought I'd reach this level. Never thought I'd be able to put myself through something like this. But I guess that's how it is when you feel you have found the one.

Hopeless romantic? They said so, too.

10:24 pm - Well, lookie here...
Here's a familiar sight (for me at least): digging into my wallet and finding receipts and bus tickets that date back as far as a month ago.

Being the environmental advocate that I am, I don't throw away these little pieces of paper because I believe that they will serve a purpose in the future; whether as scratch paper, memo paper, or for wiping shit off my shoes.

And I always told myself that I should practice writing a lot more often, as I am a journalism student. And what does one need for writing? Paper! Thus, the keeping of whatever piece of paper I can grab hold of. I even take lecture handouts and, sometimes, notebooks that are left in classrooms just so they won't go to waste (although I do read some of the handouts that I find, like that one with an article from Time magazine about EVIL).

But the problem with me is, I don't write shit. Not even here in my blog. I very seldom write. I'm too lazy. That's why these scrap papers keep piling up in my wallet and in my bag, waiting to be used. I even have an empty Green Apple notebook that I picked up from a classroom last year, and up to now I've only used one page of it. If I do need scratch paper, I have a pocket-sized notebook in my Montanara shoulder wallet that I use a lot more than the old receipts and tickets (it's easier to grab and write on than the loose strips of paper).

Now, I realize that it's either of two things: I am keeping some pretty useless stuff, or society uses a lot more paper than necessary.

I mean, why would we need a receipt for a pack of Boy Bawang when we buy it from Mini Stop? We don't ask for one when we buy it from the sari-sari store at the corner. Why is it that some lecture handouts are more than 20 pages thick, but if you look at each page, only half of the space is used? And is it really necessary for buses to issue tickets when you'll only be riding it for a kilometer or two?

Even though I am able to use some of the scrap papers that I keep (for writing details of a meeting or stuff), still, the amount seems too much for me sometimes. Yup, paper is biodegradable and recyclable at the same time, but are you sure that the trees that are used to manufacture the paper that you take for granted everyday are being replaced? I doubt that. Remember, only 3% of our country's forest cover is left intact today. If logging continues at its current rate, they could all be gone really, really soon.

Reduce, reuse, recycle... and if possible, refuse.

Okay, enough of this for now. Just don't get me started on plastics.

No more "-teen" at the end of my age as of today.

I can't believe the Pico de Loro climb was already a year ago. And it seems that I haven't done as much as my predecessor as president of EARTH-UST. Hope to bounce back next semester.

Thanks to all those who greeted me, especially the ones who I really didn't expect to do so (Cha and May Lynn). Mahalo.

Many thanks to the love of my life, Mia, for always being there, for sharing your pain with me, and for giving me the happiest and most magical moments of my life. I love you so much...

Special thanks to EARTH-UST, UST-Unicef, Greenpeace, IPMAF, Kadangyan, and everyone else responsible for giving my life sense and direction. Padayon!

And of course, thanks to my family and to God, for everything.

Rest in peace, "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin.
